Hear from Data Analyst Tracey Cheuk about what she loves about Upside and what she’s learned along the way.
Tracey Cheuk joined Upside at the end of 2022. Based in our New York City office, she serves as a Data Analyst on our Marketplace Analytics team to help the company make data-driven decisions that make our product better for our consumers and retailers alike.
Q: What is it about Upside’s culture that makes it a great place to work?
Tracey: What I love most about Upside’s culture is our emphasis on honesty. I'm always encouraged to share what the data is truly showing and provide an honest narrative, rather than telling leadership what they want to hear. It fosters a culture of transparency and continuous growth.
Q: While in your role here, what’s an important lesson you’ve learned from your direct team?
Tracey: Analytics is not just a support role — we’re here to lead as well. In previous roles, analytics was more about providing insights on request. But here at Upside, I’ve learned to proactively dive deeper into the data to guide the team in making informed, performance-driven decisions.
Q: Taking a step back, what do you think is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Tracey: The most valuable lesson I've learned is taking ownership of my growth. Early in my career, it’s common to seek guidance from others, but I’ve realized that true growth comes from doing your own research and preparing specific questions. This approach not only empowers your development but also respects others' time, making it easier for them to support you effectively.
Q: Which Upside employment benefits are your favorite and why?
Tracey: I love using ClassPass! It’s a fantastic way to stay active while bonding with coworkers and friends. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for a healthy reset with a variety of workout classes to choose from.
Q: What are some of the things you like to do in your downtime?
Tracey: I enjoy watching cop interrogation videos on YouTube. I find it fascinating to see how detectives uncover key clues and how suspects crack under pressure. It’s a unique insight into investigative techniques and human behavior.
Also, I’ve followed the Knicks ever since moving to New York about 10 years ago. While not a die-hard fan, my love for the city makes me root for them every season. The energy in the city would be so electric if they ever won the championship. I was disappointed to see the Pacers beat them but there's always hope for next season!
