In Kaela Dorsey’s role as Associate Security Operations Analyst, no two days look the same. Read more about her day-to-day responsibilities and what she loves about working at Upside.

Q: What’s the day-to-day of your role like?

Kaela: Every day in my role as an Associate Security Operations Analyst presents new challenges and learning opportunities. I monitor security alerts, investigate potential threats, and work closely with the team to ensure our systems and data remain secure. 

Collaboration is key, whether we’re responding to incidents or planning proactive strategies for staying ahead of risks. My days are filled with problem-solving, documentation, and connecting with colleagues from various departments to strengthen our overall security posture. No two days are exactly alike—there’s always something new to tackle, which keeps things engaging and dynamic.

Q: What do you love most about your team at Upside?

Kaela: What stands out most about my team is our incredible spirit of support and encouragement. They’re the kind of people who actively celebrate each other’s wins and are always there for you, especially when challenges pop up. I know I can count on them, whether it’s for advice, motivation, or just a little positivity to keep going. 

This environment of trust and empowerment pushes me to step out of my comfort zone and keep growing – professionally and personally. Our diverse perspectives and genuine care for one another make us stronger as a collective, and it's that shared commitment to each other's success that I truly cherish.

Q: How have you impacted your team’s success at Upside?

Kaela: At Upside, I strive to contribute by bringing a solution-oriented mindset to our projects and supporting my teammates wherever possible. Whether it’s sharing insights during security incidents, collaborating on process improvements, or simply lending an ear when someone needs it, I aim to create a positive ripple effect. 

I take initiative in ensuring our operations are efficient and our information is safe, and I’m always learning new approaches to stay ahead of potential issues. By actively participating and encouraging open communication, I hope I’ve helped create a space where everyone feels valued and equipped to succeed.

Q: What was your first job?

Kaela: My first job was as a host at Red Lobster, where I eventually transitioned into serving tables full time. That experience taught me a lot about responsibility, time management, and customer service. I learned how to stay organized during busy shifts and developed the confidence to connect with people from all walks of life. 

Working in hospitality gave me a deep appreciation for teamwork, adaptability, and the satisfaction that comes from making someone’s day even just a bit better. It laid the foundation for my work ethic and set the tone for how I approach challenges and collaboration in my career today.

Q: What challenges have you faced in your career?

Kaela: Throughout my career, I’ve encountered several hurdles, from navigating unfamiliar technologies to stepping into roles with higher expectations. Adapting to new environments and learning on the fly weren’t always easy, and there were moments when impostor syndrome crept in. Each challenge taught me the value of persistence and continuous learning. 

Facing difficult situations—whether technical problems or team dynamics—helped me build resilience, sharpen my problem-solving skills, and develop empathy for others experiencing similar obstacles. These experiences have ultimately shaped me into a more resourceful and confident professional.

Q: Who has inspired you and why?

Kaela: My manager, Mia, has been a tremendous source of inspiration for me. We share similar paths and backgrounds, which makes her guidance especially meaningful. Mia’s unwavering strength, confidence, and dedication to both her personal and professional life motivate me daily. She leads by example—never hesitating to offer support or authentic feedback when it’s needed most. I admire her ability to navigate challenges with grace and positivity, and I feel lucky to learn from someone who truly embodies what it means to be a leader.
